Wednesday 28th June saw the launch of the 2017/18 mentoring scheme at the Leigh Academy with an introductory breakfast for new mentors. The breakfast was hosted by Sharon Waterman, Stuart Lindars and Lee Forcella-Burton from the Leigh Academy and supported by the Trust’s Engagement Development Manager, Louisa Felstead. New mentors had the opportunity to meet each other, hear from existing business mentors and tour the academy as well as learning more about the mechanics of how this rewarding scheme operates.
The Leigh Academy has previously been supported by staff from John Lewis at Bluewater with a number of H.R, Training and Management Partners participating as valued business mentors. A number of new mentors have already stepped forward from John Lewis to join what will be the second year of mentoring here. Two H.R partners from local pharmaceutical company, Colorcon, also attended to relate their experiences as mentors and indeed, elaborated upon other areas in which they are also working with LAT academies. A sincere thank you is offered to all our existing mentors in helping to spread the message to increase mentoring opportunities for Post 16 students at the Leigh.
Attendee and former Leigh Academy student, Kelly Purvor of Metro Bank commented- “I really enjoyed the mentoring breakfast this morning so thank you so much for inviting me, it was lovely to meet everyone there too. I cannot wait to get started in September and support the students and of course my school.”
