The Leigh Academy was pleased to host a review meeting recently of its new business mentoring scheme. Both mentors and mentees were surveyed to ascertain their views on the schemes outcomes in preparation for the launch of another scheme for the 2017/8 academic year.
Students commented that one very important impact had been in building confidence and being talked with by an adult, who is not a teacher or parent, as an adult. Mentors agreed that beneficial aspects had been the opportunity to offer work experience, help with C.Vs, planning and revising for exams as well as boosting confidence.
As a new scheme, it is important to gauge how the scheme will progress at the Leigh Academy and how it might evolve in successive years so suggestions including the addition of mock assessments for students were most welcome. All students who completed the scheme agreed that they would recommend having a mentor to other students whilst all mentors who attended the feedback meeting are keen to participate again.
For those interested in finding out more about becoming a business mentor at the Leigh Academy, there will be a mentoring breakfast on June 28th; please RSVP to attend.
