Strood Academy’s third annual “Big Event” took place on Wednesday 11th October. Run at the same time as Post 16 parents evening, all student groups from year 8 upwards were invited to attend with their parents and carers.

During a busy evening, up to 250 pupils and their parents took the opportunity to speak with universities, further education providers, apprenticeships providers and local businesses about potential future student destinations.

A notable new addition to those exhibiting was Louise Badelow, Leigh Aspire Programme Manager. Leigh Aspire is a new Leigh Academies Trust initiative that provides high achieving pupils with cultural and educational enrichment opportunities. Ms Badelow commented “It was fantastic to be able to attend the Big Event at Strood Academy to talk to both students and their families about the many exciting opportunities available through Leigh Aspire”.

“I thought that the event went really well. There was a high level of engagement and everybody I spoke to were really interested in all aspects of the event. I also managed to get rid of all of my prospectus’, which is always a positive! We would love to come again next year, and thank you very much for hosting us.” – Leon Harris, Outreach Officer,University of Westminster
